Real Estate Bar Camp Houston, Texas

I am very excited for tomorrows Real Estate Bar Camp which is being held in my neck of the woods or should I say my neck of the Woodlands.  Sorry couldn’t help myself the pun was just so easy.  Anyways tomorrows event is being held at the City of Shenandoah Meeting Facility which is located between exit 76 and exit 77 on I-45.  Registration begins at 8:00am sharp with the Keynote scheduled at 9:00am.  The event is to last all day ending around 6:00pm.

The Real Estate Bar Camp is to be held on cutting edge topics for utilizing the web for Real Estate marketing.  A slew of big names will be at the event such as active rain, agent genius, zillow, trulia, Altos research along with other big name vendors.  I expect by attending the training session I will have a large number of new ideas to help get my seller’s homes sold and a few that will help me provide better service to my buyers.

I am sure in addition to the great ideas that will be available there will be plenty of opportunities for agents to network with others all across the country.  As a large number of agents are expected to be flying in.  If you are an agent and reading this I hope to see you at the event tomorrow.

I find that real estate conferences always improve my own techniques and it sounds like this event should do the same for you. Hope it was a hit.

So how was the real estate conference? Any new ideas that you picked up?

Since blogging seems to be such an important part of site promotion these days, I’m planning on attending something like a barcamp. They had one last year in San Francisco so if that happens I’ll likely go there. Maybe we could talk more if you thought it was a worth while event.

REBarCamp was a great confrence and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to develop a strong web presence. The biggest thing that I got out of the confrence was how the world of marketing is changing and that the consumer is becoming more and more in control of the process.

One quote from the keynote speaker that I think rings ever so true is how the traditional methods of marketing were gathered from the days of bond. And everything is about a squeeky clean image where everything falls into place. This is just not how things work in our world today and the consumer realizes it. They want more transparency.

This desire for transparency was displayed using the example of todays heros and yester years hero. In the days of Bond 007 always defeated the bad guy, never got a scratch on him, and always got the girl. But, today’s hero Jason Borne, gets beat to a pulp and doesn’t get the girl because she is killed. All he can do is try to have a normal life.

@Carolyn - Sure we can talk about the confrence sometime if you wish just let me know.

That is an interesting comparison. I loved the new Bond movie because it showed his vunerabilities, made him more real. I know there is a trend in real estate to be totally transparent but wonder what percentage of consumers really care vs. the ones who just want to look at homes online. Maybe a lot of that transparancy is just in the way data is presented.

In Williamson Co., Texas we have for the last 2 years had a one day conference we call Tech Tune-up which is basically similar to the Bar Camp you discuss. It has been wildly successful. I am on the committee and we are already planning this years big event. We have classes on blogging, latest technology, gadgets, marketing, twitter, etc.

I wonder what other people have found to be the most effective types of marketing on the Web. For sellers’ listings, I really like Point2NLS, because it gets a listing in front of a lot of people through syndication. For agent advertising, the only thing I’ve found to be effective is google ads. But you have to be careful not to overbid.

Did you happen to come up with any solutions at the conference to fix the poor economy and sellers market we are having right now?

They just had another one of these in Denver. I wish I could have made it. Hopefully the next one will be closer to Las Vegas.
